Network Virtualization Architect

As an experienced technical resource, the Network Architect will be focused on Virtualization and will impact WOW! transition by developing and implementing end-to-end solutions to complex business networking and communications problems for new and existing clients. The Network Virtualization Architect applies advanced knowledge and diverse skills in technologies (e.g. SDN, NFV, IP routing) and multiple vendors (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, Nokia) to include design and architecture of various platforms like OpenStack and VMWare. They will perform complex engineering for customer environments and possess broad knowledge of overall Multiple System Operator ("MSO") environments and architectures. 

A key responsibility is to advance the customer relationship and build trust with stakeholders. The Network Virtualization Archtect applies independent thinking and works closely with Enterprise Architecture, project management, systems engineering and engineering teams to insure WOW! is meeting the customer's requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Work with the Industry Partners to align on solutions, approach, and strategic direction, gathering feedback and using the feedback to shape overall solutions architectures

  • Design, configure, implement, test and support complex MSO network environments that consist of multi-vendors

  • Support Engineering And Operational teams on adoption of Virtualization
    Work to drive future vision of solutions into deployable architectures; lead cross-functional team to deliver these architectures

  • Assist and provide leadership for troubleshooting and triage service restoration for complex customer-affecting issues; analyze multiple data sources and conduct root cause analysis to field-reported software issues

  • Provide direct interface to internal customers at varied and appropriate levels of management on advanced design solutions

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing multiple priorities and interruptions with minimal impact on productivity

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in telecommunications, computer science, electrical engineering or related discipline

  • 10+ years in design/implementation/consulting experience in service provider solutions including Mobile RAN, Packet Core, Backbone and Data Center

  • Wireless/Mobility experience with Operator experience preferred

  • Knowledge of one or more Wireline, Cable or Wireless Communications Service Provider markets

  • Specific knowledge in NFV/SDN & Orchestration area (benefits, technologies, key vendors, use cases, etc.)

  • Deep knowledge in telecom technologies, industry trends (network architectures, technologies, services) used in wireline, wireless, cable operators.

  • Understanding of advanced networking concepts (VLANs, OpenVPN, iptables, dnsmasq, tunneling, overlay networking, layer 4-7 services, topology discovery, path computation)

  • Familiarity with Security Gateways

  • Familiarity with technologies like Open VSwitch, OpenFlow, VMware Enterprise Container Infrastructures, AWS

  • Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet, 802.1Q, GRE, VXLAN, L2VPN, MPLS, BGP, IS-IS

  • Apply excellent customer relationship management skills

  • Demonstrate a high level of independent judgment and initiative

  • Maintain a flexible work schedule

  • Ability to enumerate and articulate TCO and ROI supporting investments

  • Familiarity with Mobile (4G, 3G, 2G) and Fixed networks (network architectures, service models, service provisioning)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of major industry standards: TMF, TNM, ETSI, ITU, 3GPP, ONF, ONRF

  • BSS/OSS Software

  • Network Management, Resource Management, Service Management.
    Planning, Rollout, Order Management, Fulfillment, Activation, Assurance.
    IaaS, SaaS, Managed Services

  • Knowledge of telecom applications, their purpose and use in telecom operators
