Director, Sales Compensation

The Director of Sales Compensation is primarily responsible for the strategy, design, development and implementation of all sales compensation for WOW! sales employees as well as sales related compensation for customer care and technician employees. This position is also responsible for assisting sales and marketing leadership with the development of incentive programs for 3rd party sales partners and for developing the overall organization strategy and compensation programs.

What you'll do:

  • Ensure that sales compensation is deftly designed to optimize the investment of compensation to drive profitable revenue growth across all sales channels

  • Serves as the key strategic partner for SVP of Sales, SVP of Customer Care, SVP of Field Operations and each sales channel leader in the creation of incentive programs

  • Develops compensation programs and plans to support the strategic initiatives of each sales leader

  • Partners with director of compensation to establish base pay ranges and total target compensation (TTC) for all residential and commercial sales employees

  • Partners with sales operations, product, marketing, finance, payroll, accounting, compensation, and sales commission administration teams to develop detailed financial models to support revenue growth strategies

  • Engages and leads 3rd part consultant relationships to provide technical advice associated with sales commissions and incentives

  • Develops programs that are simple and can be administered and communicated in a way that supports operational excellence and efficiency

  • Acts as a change agent to ensure all new sales commission and sales incentive programs are effectively implemented

  • Develops training for HR business partners, recruiting staff, and sales leadership to ensure these key leaders understand and can effectively communicate the sales commission incentive strategy and programs to candidates and employees

  • Ensure the design of all programs improves profitable revenue generation with a market-based investment in compensation across all sales channels

  • Partners with sales commission incentive team and sales operations to build and implement compensation reports and analytics to measure return on the compensation investment for revenue generation and retention

  • Owns the monthly sales compensation plan design committee meetings

  • Perform all other duties as assigned

What we're looking for:


  • BS/BA degree required preferably in business, mathematics, or economics. MBA/MS preferred

  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in compensation or sales operations experience with at least 3 years in roles directly leading sales compensation

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • Experience with enterprise sales commission systems preferred

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to develop and deliver detailed analytical reports, compensation plans and executive presentations

  • Impeccable attention to detail

  • Demonstrable ability to roll-up sleeves and work with sales and sales ops teams in a hands-on capacity

  • General compensation strategy and administration experience a plus

Computer/Technical Skills:

  • Intermediate to advanced word processing skills and presentation development experience required (G-suite or Microsoft)

  • Advanced MS Excel skills to support data modeling and financial analysis

  • Knowledge of finance and accounting principles
