Job Description


Manager, Database Administration



The Manager, Database Administration provides technical and strategic leadership to database administrators, including the selection and implementation of policies and procedures to support transactional and analytical databases, as well as developing automation and monitoring to maximize server uptime. This role will manage a team that supports the operational health of all databases used by the company.



Duties and Responsibilities:



Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:




  • Set strategic direction for the design and deployment of application databases

  • Develop and maintain system for monitoring databases to ensure peak performance and resiliency

  • Lead a team of DBAs in data replication, indexing, performance tuning, and provisioning to support critical business and IT systems.

  • Partner with other internal teams, business stakeholders and external vendors to help design, develop and deliver database configurations to support their needs.

  • Coordinate development and training of Data Governance processes and support organizational change efforts required to establish Data Governance capabilities

  • Identify opportunities to continually improve the quality of the data management systems, processes, and standards

  • Implement and maintain controls and measures for SOX compliance as well as to reduce data issues and improve data quality

  • Monitor, identify, investigate, prioritize, remediate and communicate data or performance issues

  • Oversees database and team disaster recovery and business continuity planning

  • Manage multiple projects/assignments involving a high level of coordination among departments and other business units to meet timelines and budgets

  • Assign work and coaching/mentoring team members

  • Provide guidance and oversight during off/hours by assisting with troubleshooting efforts and coaching team members on troubleshooting strategies

  • Other duties as assigned

-Education:




  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience.



-Experience/Skills Needed:




  • 2+ years of experience managing people

  • 2+ years managing people within the Data Administration domain preferred

  • 5+ years of experience working in a data-intensive role

  • Able to communicate complex configurations in a clear and actionable manner

  • Subject matter expertise in data architecture, database design and/or engineering.

  • Experience in working with outsourced resources and/or managed services contracts

  • Strong desire to learn new technologies

  • Preferred familiarity with Oracle, Microsoft, and AWS database technologies

  • Scripting experience in a SQL language

  • Scripting experience in python or bash preferred.



Computer Skills:




  • G Suite experience preferred
