WOW! is currently hiring a Principal Reporting Engineer to work remotely in Colorado!

The Principal Reporting Engineer leads efforts to gather and analyze data as well as develop, maintain, modify, and enhance complex data movement and reporting solutions.   The Principal Reporting Engineer provides support to an enterprise-wide Data Warehouse and Reporting environment and leads and provides mentorship to staff, makes recommendations based on data analysis as well design and architecture expertise for the enterprise data warehouse.

What YOU need is:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field of study or equivalent certification or related experience.

  • 7 years of experience working with and/or supporting data analytics teams.  

  • Understanding of the difference between building and support data for use in analytics versus Application Development. 

  • 7 years of experience with SQL  

  • 5+ years of experience in Operational Data Store and Data Warehousing concepts, best practices, models, and tools. Must have experience with DDL and DML. 

  • 5+ years of cable/telecommunication experience preferred. 

  • Proficient in developing and troubleshooting ETL and knowledge of query optimization techniques. 

  • Experience with BI tools (Tableau, Jaspersoft, etc.) and building dashboards is preferred. 

  • Understanding of version control and change management processes. Experience with GitHub preferred. 

  • Experience and understanding of database administration tasks (creating/designing databases & tables, management of file groups, SQL Agent Jobs, etc.)  

  • Experience with ETL tools (Snaplogic a plus) 

  • Experience with software development methodologies (Waterfall, Agile).

  • Experience in AWS (Postgres), Tableau, and Snowflake preferred. 

  • Experience mentoring a team that supports a workflow of concurrent projects and initiatives from inception through production support. 

  • Strong relational skills and ability to communicate technical and non-technical ideas, written and verbal, to individuals and large groups. 

  • Ability to monitor a team of developers and testers in an Agile environment, mentor junior team members, and drive accountability to technical design and coding standards. 

  • Fundamental knowledge of standard desktop business applications and tools.   

What you'll be doing:

Crucial responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Work closely with senior management from multiple functional groups within the organization to understand business goals, needs, and provide subject matter expertise supporting their data and analytical needs. 

  • Examine and document business models and flows of data, objectives and requirements for complex data warehouse and reporting solutions. 

  • Develop, or lead the development of technical solutions to complex problems that can include extracting datasets and metrics from multiple disparate data sources and provide complex analytical reporting. 

  • Assess data and respective metrics and provide subject matter expertise regarding data anomalies, situational impacts, and patterns. 

  • Act as a team lead supporting peer and junior developers and testers supporting the design and implementation of the data warehouse. 

  • Provide technical leadership to the team by assisting in defining and building the tools and capabilities to continuously improve upon the maturity of a data-driven organization. 

  • Communicate with management, stakeholders, project manager, team members and business groups on issues and the status of work planned and completed. 

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to others by reviewing work and providing recommendations for design, coding or testing approach, which could include conducting or participating in code walkthroughs or other methods to ensure report quality.
