HFC Design Engineer

WOW! Internet, Cable & Phone Madison Heights, MI (Onsite) Full-Time

WOW! is currently hiring a HFC Design Engineer​!

The HFC Design Engineer is responsible for cost estimates, all complex connects and disconnects, design and drafting to create and maintain OSP documentation using AutoCad for Coax and fiber Designs for the following; new build, small plant extensions, and rebuild plant and maintain fiber documentation, inventory, and assignments. This role is also responsible for market expansion fiber design including legacy CALIX/Nokia. This position will also transition from AutoCAD based design to Esri and Schneider Electric based design leveraging ArcFM Fiber Manager and Designer HFC application.

What You'll be doing

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Create and maintain system maps thru AutoCAD, ArcFM Fiber Manager and Designer HFC of existing and new Commercial, MDU and Residential developments 

  • Perform system designs and calculations to create Material Orders, Schematics and construction plans and requirements for all OSP projects and customer quotes 

  • Maintain and provide current and updated system design\fiber maps to all departments upon request 

  • Complete, design, drafting and detailed drawings as required 

  • Maintain strong lines of communication with all staff, including management, independent contractors and field, and office personnel 

  • Prepare Detailed Cost Estimates.

  • Analyze project plans, blueprints, and specifications to develop accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment.   

  • valuate Project Requirements.  Assess site conditions, project scope, and client requirements to determine the most cost-effective construction methods.

  • Must be a self-starter and demonstrate the ability to work independently. 

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • BA degree in GIS or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience desired 

  • 2+ years of experience in Outside Plant Construction or engineering. 

  • GIS experience preferred, with the use of ArcFM Fiber Manager, Designer HFC, AutoCAD 

  • Previous experience working with contractors, contract work, mapping, and asbuilts of new and existing plan

Skills and Abilities to be Successful in this Role

  • Ability to communicate and interpret Outside Plant prints to teach technical information to a non-technical audience 

  • Ability to accurately maintain records, logs, reports, work orders, etc. 

  • Strong customer-focused behavior; the ability to work with others; must be a team player with strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Ability to handle escalations and time-critical issues 

  • Must be a self-starter and demonstrate the ability to work independently. 

  • Excellent organization, mathematical skills, and computer skills 

  • Functional understanding of AC\DC theory and design principles of RF, Fiber and FTTH solutions. 

  • Effective experience in implementing and building internal processes and procedures 

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills 

  • Strong customer-focused behavior; the ability to work with others; must be a team player with strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Inventory, Contact Management, GIS background
