Vice President Video Engineering


The Vice President of Video Engineering, leads a team of innovative self-starters that engineer, develop and deliver the lifecycle of current and new video product initiatives. This role partners with the product team and across the organization to ensure that company objectives are met while providing an outstanding customer experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential responsibilities are listed below but are not limited to:

  • Engineer, build and maintain the integrity of our legacy QAM and future IP video products

  • Work collaboratively with Product, Marketing, Operations, Care and Field on the design and build of video technology solutions

  • Build and direct vendors to become strategic partners in the delivery of their solutions and support of the company's business and strategic objectives

  • Build strategies and implement solutions to avail the open source community whenever possible.

  • Monitors industry developments (technical, regulatory and competitive) to ensure that the Video Engineering team is innovative and operates at the forefront of technology.

  • Advocate for companywide scrum transformation

  • Design, build and enable alarming and monitoring platforms to analyze product and technology performance, predict propensities for failure, alarm and provide direction for resolution.

  • Design and build an AI/ML strategy and associated platform to help guide new technology and product development and influence customer interaction with Wow products.

  • Design and build an addressable ad delivery platform to span QAM and IP infrastructure

  • Monitor and analyze product performance to enable efficiencies for our operations and customer care teams

  • Manage capital budgets to ensure business objectives are reached in a cost effective, scalable and extensible manner.

  • Lead, grow and develop a team to enable a next generation video delivery and consumption ecosystem with flexibility and extensibility to facilitate the unknown

  • Other duties may be assigned

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in engineering or computer science

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 10+ years leadership experience managing engineering, software or technical teams.

  • 7+ years software development experience

  • 5+ years video engineering experience with IP and/or OTT delivery an asset

  • Experience building transformational products

  • AI/ML/NLP experience an asset

  • Can successfully develop and direct external vendor partnerships to ensure successful execution of product roadmap plans against company objectives and build them in to strategic partners

  • Are a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to communicate and work proactively with internal customers to recommend solutions and provide counsel as needed to ensure the most positive business outcome

  • Experience applying Scrum, and its use in all aspects of business activities

  • Have demonstrated budget management experience with basic financial and business analysis skills

  • Possess excellent writing skills with proven ability to write business plans and comprehensive strategic direction documents, as well as outstanding verbal communication, interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment where flexibility and teamwork are essential

  • Have strong knowledge of video technologies, and understand evolving industry technical and regulatory developments

  • Understanding of operational processes, from call handling to provisioning to dispatch to fulfillment and servicing

  • Well versed in software development and have written software in the past

  • Ability to effectively set priorities and complete tasks on schedule
