Engineer IV, Video Systems Integration


Reports to: VP Video Engineering


FLSA Status: Exempt


Department: Product & Network Engineering



The Engineer IV, Video and Systems Integration provides technical oversight to a team of engineers and is responsible for driving design, development, and test support for new software and vendor integration projects and drives forward the organization's adoption of new technologies and the development of new platforms by providing technical leadership and fostering cross-functional communication between Product and Network Engineering and a wide variety of other groups across the organization



Duties and Responsibilities:



Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:




  • Oversees and builds out expansive, multi-vendor, multi-regional video systems ecosystem integration inclusive of the backend, frontend, authentication, video distribution pipelines, metadata ingest and OSS/BSS

  • Facilitates the design, creation, and launch of on-demand distribution pipelines by fostering cross-functional collaboration between the Video Engineering team and Operations Engineering team

  • Oversees the technical staff performing software upload/download enablement, for android TV, video streaming applications (iOS, AOSP, Roku, Amazon, web app)

  • Design CDN (Content Distribution Network) architecture, deployment, and massive scaling

  • Sets the benchmark for professional standards across Engineering for Design and implement solutions and provide technical leadership to more junior engineers on system scalability, robustness, failover, tools, and operations

  • Contribute to overall engineering process standardization efforts across WOW!'s engineering teams including new product engineering development

  • Perform network log correlation and analysis

  • Qualify video quality using analysis tools

  • Build an environment based on CI/CD and DevOps best practices to create, test, and functionality to customers.

  • Test and validate functionality within and between complex applications, including integration, performance, and/or systems testing. Acts as the escalation point for complex systems bugs identified by more junior level engineers.

  • Provide support to Engineering Operations on production applications

  • Participate in application documentation, training and deployment efforts

  • Responsible and leads process for the selection of tools, technology platforms & technical evaluation of 3rd party vendor products

  • Create, implement and maintain process and procedure improvements within the Video Engineering team and cross-functionally.

  • Acts as an escalation point providing leadership to Video Engineering team

  • Responsible for providing continuous learning and skill development to Video Engineering team members

  • Ensure products and services meet design specifications and function per requirement documentation

  • Acts as a technical lead for multiple simultaneous video-related products and projects

  • Acts as subject matter expert on the team providing guidance and support to other team members

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:




  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, science or engineering discipline or equivalent certification or experience.



Experience/Skills Needed:




  • 10-15years' experience with QAM and IP video/ OTT products and service

  • Minimum 7 years of work experience is required

  • 5+ years' experience in streaming media for primary set-top or IP companion devices

  • Experience with REST, API required

  • Application integration experience using software technologies preferred.(Python, Java, C++, C#.NET, ASP.NET MVC, WCF, Web API).

  • Extensive experience with video distribution platforms, video codecs, streaming protocols, assets and video preparation/packing, and video play-out through native and proprietary players and associated devices (iOS, Android, FireTV, Roku, etc.)

  • Extensive experience with on-demand distribution pipelines including pitch, catch, transcode, packaging and delivery

  • Extensive experience with metadata ingest, manipulation, validation, and delivery

  • Extensive experience with unit testing, test-driven development, and automated testing required

  • Knowledge of API design and testing for the scale preferred

  • Experience with database technologies (e.g. MySQL, SQL Server 2012/2016) preferred

  • NoSQL (e.g. REDIS, MongoDB) experience preferred

  • Video domain knowledge (back office, metadata, streaming, video quality) including Http Live Streaming (HLS) and DASH preferred

  • Apple IOS and Google Android deployment experience for tablets and smartphones preferred

  • HTML5 Experience with streaming video and DRM preferred

  • Cloud ecosystem experience with VMWare, Kubernetes, OpenStack or similar preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to influence



Computer Skills:




  • Fundamental knowledge of standard desktop business applications and tools

  • Experience with online collaboration tools such as G Suite
