Tax Analyst

The Tax Analyst is responsible for helping WOW! ensure compliance in all aspects of transaction tax liabilities by filing accurate and timely tax returns and other reports across the states WOW! operates in pursuant to federal, state, and local rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Prepare transaction tax returns (e.g., sales and use, business and occupation, gross receipts, telecommunications) and remittances for monthly, quarterly and annual filings

  • Prepare and remit TRS and E911 fees

  • File returns and tax payments/deposits via electronic and paper filing methods

  • Prepare and remit annual business license filings

  • Gather tax data electronically from billing systems and accounting software for preparation of tax return detail and backup

  • Process property tax funding requests for processing through third-party payment processor

  • Assist in the maintenance of the tax calendar and maintain tax calendars to ensure that commitments are timely met

  • Assist with information requests for state and local audits

  • Assemble and mail all estimated tax payments, extensions and income tax returns

  • Administer document retention and maintain existing filing processes

  • Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements

  • Contribute to special projects as necessary

  • Prepare account reconciliations of transaction tax general ledger accounts

  • Assist with the follow-up and resolution of tax notices and correspondence from federal, state and local tax authorities including maintenance of notice log

  • Review taxability of purchase orders on a daily basis

  • Review Accounts Payable invoices for proper use tax accruals

  • Process Tax department mail on a daily basis to ensure timely handling of all items received

  • Review and process customer tax exemption certificates and maintain exemption certificate log to ensure proper documentation is on file

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or other related Business degree preferred but not required

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience

  • Telecommunication experience preferred but not required

  • Understanding of compliance process and account reconciliation concepts

  • Work effectively in a fast paced, high energy work environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel

  • Able to build strong working relationships both inside and outside the organization

  • Should be a goal oriented, independent self-starter

  • Organized thinker with strong analytical and computer skills

  • Able to effectively manage multiple priorities and have the ability to work independently with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities

  • Strong desire to expand tax knowledge and grow skills by taking on increasingly more responsibilities

Computer Skills:

MS Office software (Excel & Word), NetSuite, Great Plains, AnyBill, Adobe Professional, Internet, e-mail, and database software, as required.
