The Sr. Manager of Network Products and Services Engineering oversees the team of software engineers who design, build, test, and deploy access networks and network products that our clients consume.    This role is responsible for curating relationships with peers, leaders, and stakeholders throughout the organization to understand the needs of the business and translate those needs into deliverables for the NPSE team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Maintains the overall technology roadmap for access network and network products.
  • Creates and curates automated processes to help speed design, build, transfer, and deployment network products.
  • Maintains positive relationships with peers, leaders and customer organizations throughout the company, particularly those in care, field, and the NOC to drive the successful cross-functional delivery of network products and services.
  • Forms and maintains partner relations for new technology, virtual supply chains, and other critical services required to help integrate technologies into the organization.
  • Maintains the short and long term goals of the department and constantly evaluates technology initiatives to ensure alignment with these goals.
  • Maintains the overall resource utilization plan for the team and makes recommendations to upper management when augments are required.
  • Manages and mentors the team ensuring optimal growth and performance.
  • Established and monitors team KPI’s, particularly those around sprint performance and delivery metrics.
  • Scrum Master - utilizes scrum to manage the backlog and deliver on commitments.  Evangelizes scrum to other partners and stakeholders in the organization.
  • Compiles departmental CAPEX, and OPEX budget recommendations and presents to management for review.
  • Works with management to review yearly staff training plans and budgets.
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies and processes to identify strategic opportunities for the overall engineering organization to increase revenue and/or reduce cost.
  • Ensures that documentation and knowledge sharing is being embraced by the team at all times.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on the team for 1-3 areas of the technology stack which can include but not be limited to: layer 1-3 network technologies, MPLS, WIFI, Docsis, PON, Ethernet, VOIP, or DWDM.

  • BSEE, BSPM, BSBA, or equivalent.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Scrum Master preferred. 

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 5+ years of experience leading a highly functioning and diverse team responsible for building fiber optic or Docsis based networks, Voice Networks, or WIFI Networks and/or the products that ride over them
  • Strong Experience with Systems Operations, Budgeting, and Interdepartmental Strategic Planning
  • 5+ years working knowledge of Data Center Class Server Design, Hardware Implementation and Vendor Management
  • Cloud ecosystem experience with VMWare, Kubernetes, OpenStack or similar
  • Demonstrates knowledge of fiber optic based transport technologies (PON, C/DWDM, OC-X, SONET)
  • Understands MEF standards relative to Ethernet Deployments and best practices.
  • Demonstrates knowledge with HFC network and DOCSIS standards and best practices
  • Demonstrates knowledge in one or more network platform operating systems such as IOS, AOS, SROS, Junos
  • Familiarity with automation technologies such as Ansible, TR069, TACACS, Rancid, etc.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of unified communications systems and technologies
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the OSI model
  • Demonstrates a high level of transparency, collaboration and communication skills
  • Demonstrates a high level of EQ (emotional intelligence)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, G-Suite
