Sr Director - Release and Configuration Management

The Sr Director of Release and Configuration Management drives value for WOW! through leading the assurance of deploying releases into production. This role is accountable for the tracking and scheduling of all projects that require code releases and the assignment of environments needed to test and release code into production. The Sr Director - Release and Configuration Management drives the development of processes and tools that move code from environments to production without error and leads the team that partners cross-functionally to manage the release process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Oversee the IT Release Environments team
  • Develop and manage the IT Release and Configuration roadmap in collaboration with senior leadership
  • Create, manage and monitor annual departmental budget
  • Direct the forward planning of the release windows and cycles across a portfolio
  • Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
  • Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations
  • Implement and maintain processes and culture that enhances continuous improvement through measuring success and root cause analysis
  • Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third party applications, or operating system updates
  • Communicate all key project plans, commitments, and changes including requirements, QA plans, schedule, and scope changes to key stake holders across the organization
  • Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations
  • Conduct Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews
  • Establish ITILv4 processes concerning release, configuration and deployment
  • Establish and maintain configuration standards across platforms
  • Direct Development to produce Run Books and Implementation Plans
  • Provide weekly release reporting to the executive leadership team
  • Communicate release details and schedules to the Business
  • Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
  • Work with engineers to understand impacts of branches and code merges
  • Maintains the release schedule for all core services and ensure alignment across key partners and vendors.
  • Lead and co-ordinate the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment Plans and checklists.
  • Develops scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms
  • Maintains a release repository and manage key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, supply chain, procurement, finance or a related field or equivalent experience

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 5+ years of previous release and/or project management experience, (Solid understanding of project management principles preferred)
  • 8-10 years of experience in information systems operations environment in systems analysis or development
  • 10 years previous leadership experience
  • Proven skills in the implementation of ITILv3 or v4
  • Strong skills in coaching and developing
  • Strong understanding of trends in the industry and the marketplaces for services, software, hardware, and telecommunications
  • Delivery oriented self-started with proven ability to drive change with speed
  • Able to collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams to set objectives and produce results
  • Able to effective communicate with technical and non-technical staff at various levels
  • Advanced knowledge of software development lifecycle
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and analytical skills
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills are a must
  • General PC knowledge including Microsoft Office expert level knowledge of Excel, working Knowledge of Access

Computer Skills:

  • Strong PC skills
  • G Suite experience preferred
