Job Description


The Network Assurance Engineer I will assist senior engineers in the analysis of the IP, Optical, and Access Network and will assist in identifying configuration issues that could result in loss of connectivity, degradation of performance or network and/or service outages. The Network Assurance Engineer I monitors and understands the health of services and makes recommendations to and assists senior engineers to prevent impairment. This position will support outage management for both incidents and problems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Works closely with more senior engineers and supports the troubleshooting of incidents and outages of minimal complexity.

  • Completes assigned tasks to help with the planning of Assurance projects as assigned

  • Helps with tasks that support bringing more visibility to our network including building an alarm dictionary, defining troubleshooting steps, and creating root cause analysis guidelines.

  • Validate the health of the network and its services on a daily basis.

  • Reviews Service Performance and Health Reports to include network performance (latency, jitter, packet loss), platform performance (CPU, Memory, Utilization)

  • Provide 24x7 escalation support to WOW NOC in support of MTTR goals

  • Support Market Network and Service scorecard goals under the guidance of a lead engineer

  • Supports maintenance activities for network repairs and augments

  • Follows defined methods and procedures to monitor the network and respond to issues. 

  • Maintain error logs for network trend analysis.

  • Troubleshoot hardware failures and server issues.

  • Validate hardware and software configuration standards.

  • Perform checks on network and service backup plan.

  • Other duties as assigned

BS required or equivalent work experience

-Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 0-3 years’ work experience in technology (telecommunications industry preferred)

  • Basic understanding of IP Networks and Subnetting 

  • Basic understanding of IP Multicast 

  • Basic Knowledge of Juniper and Cisco Routers and Switches

  • Basic Knowledge of Juniper JUNOS and Cisco IOX

  • Basic Knowledge of Cienna, Cisco, Infinera, and Nokia Optical Platforms

  • Basic Knowledge of fiber transmission, link budgets, OTDR, optical signaling, and BERT testing

  • Basic Knowledge of Arris CMTS, Nokia DAA, Calix, and Nokia Routing Platforms

  • Basic Knowledge of DOCSIS, Distributed Access Architecture, PON, and MPLS

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand the process flow 

  • Experience with the OSI model particularly as it relates to what functions affect or impact unified communications services

-Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Applications i.e. Excel, Word, Powerpoint

  • Google Application Suite i.e. Drive

  • Service NOW Ticket Systems
