Job Description


The Maintenance Technician performs a variety of duties related to the preventative maintenance and repair of the fiber/coaxial network.

Primary Functions:

  • Performs preventative maintenance and repair of broadband distribution system
  • Troubleshoots and repairs system components and distribution problems
  • Calculates system signal losses and makes necessary adjustments to resolve problems
  • Installs electronics and makes proper connections
  • Conducts system tests, keeps records, and renders reports relative to system operations
  • Checks and maintains all types of system power supplies and line amplifiers and all other equipment associated with normal system repair
  • Ensures all FCC minimum guidelines are met or exceeded (forward, return, leakage and proof of performance standards)
  • Tests newly activated network for quality
  • Performs customary CATV aerial and underground constructions, including all passive and active devices found in distribution lines
  • Climbs poles, ladders and other structures with proper equipment (safety belt, safety strap, and climbers)
  • On call during scheduled time periods, and responds to calls as needed
  • Operates and maintains assigned vehicle in accordance with Company guidelines, and ensures that vehicle is stocked with necessary equipment

Secondary Functions:

  • Coordinates with other departments as necessary to ensure customer satisfaction and problem resolution
  • Maintains sense of urgency and consistently meets deadlines
  • Accurately completes required paperwork and documentation associated with each job assignment


  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Valid commercial driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required
  • Two or more years of experience telecommunication installation, maintenance, or construction

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of wiring schematics, fiber diagrams, and aerial and underground cable plants
  • Working knowledge of test equipment to perform standard troubleshooting activities
  • Advanced technical training is preferred
  • Knowledge of FTTX technology is preferred
  • Must be able to use laptop and handheld device to enter account notes

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently  moves/transports loads of 75 lbs
  • Frequently works while standing
  • Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • Works and travels in all types of weather conditions
  • Manipulates connectors, fasteners, wires and uses hand tools
  • Must be able to climb ladders and or poles
  • Uses shovel to dig holes or trenches
  • Must be able to work from elevated heights and in tight spaces
  • Frequently required to verbally communicate with customers and other employees
