Manager of IT Planning

The Manager of IT Planning is responsible for managing IT/technical project manager and scrum master resources and developing and coordinating processes and documentation needed to deliver software solutions for the IT development teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Manage a team of IT/technical project managers and scrum masters and provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to optimum performance levels and career development

  • Work with the development teams, delivery managers, and business to plan project timelines and execute projects effectively and timely

  • Own and manage the IT release calendar, including ensuring releases are appropriately sized, coordinated amongst impacted teams, dependencies are addressed, and releases are communicated to all stakeholders

  • Support on-call/after-hours as needed related to release windows

  • Develop processes and documentation for the IT/technical project manager and scrum master roles within the project lifecycle, including looking into process enhancements (for example: the SAFe agile framework)

  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations in assessing new IT software projects and initiatives to support, enhance, and improve efficiency of business processes

  • Serve as a liaison and facilitator with the business units to assist in addressing and resolving IT software issues while providing assistance and advice to business users in the effective use of applications and technology

  • Troubleshoot and manage issues lists pertaining to deployed application systems

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent certification or related experience within multiple tiers of an IT organization

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • Must be comfortable in rapidly changing and sometimes ambiguous work situations

  • Keen attention to detail and complex problem solving abilities from an operational and technical perspective

  • Ability to work independently and engage manager as needed

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with multiple SDLC methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, SAFe)

  • Deep understanding of project planning, including artifacts such as project plans, requirements traceability matrices, risk/issue logs, and deployment playbooks

  • Ability to drive phases of the project include discovery, requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and post-production deployment

  • Must be able to manage changes to requirements through effective application of change control processes and tools

  • Ability to participate in peer reviews and inspections of project planning artifacts

  • Can conduct tests or test planning sessions, provide input for feasibility, and prepare user documentation and follow-up evaluation

  • Experienced in Quality Assurance processes, test methodologies, and defect tracking.

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to help negotiate priorities, and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders (such as customers, product management, and engineering)

Computer Skills:

Fundamental knowledge of standard desktop business applications and tools
