Job Description

This Network Assurance Engineer II perform analysis of IP, Optical, and Access network am identify configuration issues that could result in loss of connectivity, degradation of performance or network and/or service outages. The Network Assurance Engineer II monitors and understand the health of IP, Optical, Access networks and take action to prevent impairment. The position will support outage management for both incident and problem.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Perform operational support for the infrastructure and applications supporting the provisioning and management of our services including platforms such as Core Routers, CMTS, Aggregation Routers and Switches, Transport platforms such as DWDM, TDM, etc.
  • Validate the health of IP, Optical, and Access network on a daily basis by performing health checks of the network (or service).   Detect any failures, investigate alarms and take the necessary steps to resolve any issues identified.
  • Build Service Performance and Health Reports
  • Provide 24x7 escalation support to Network Assurance I and WOW NOC in support of MTTR goals
  • Perform maintenance activities for network technologies Monitor and assess network reliability for IP, Optical, and/or Access
  • Maintain and analyze error logs and provide resolutions to problems
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software failures for restoration and performs root cause analysis
  • Validate hardware and software configuration standards
  • Perform network health checks and backup plans
  • Organize and plan system maintenance to avoid interruptions
  • Support Market Network and Service scorecard goals by acting as technical escalation in the event that the Eng. I is unable to resolve an identified issue.
  • Use defined methods and procedures to monitor network/services and respond to issues
  • Plans projects so they may be tracked and presented.
  • Provides guidance technical staff and lower level engineers
  • Responsible for training assigned work group and effectively leading work teams within the work group.
  • Delivers presentations to general audiences and writes convincing proposals and reports with all necessary backup material for consumption
  • Other duties as assigned

-Education:

  • BS required equivalent work experience

-Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 3-5 years of work experience required (telecommunications industry preferred)
  • Knowledgeable with a number of platforms and/or systems.
  • Ability to be the Subject Matter Expert in at least one area or system. Working knowledge of a number of other areas of specialization.
  • Knowledgeable of Juniper Routers and Switches, Cienna Optical Platforms, Arris CMTS, Nokia Routing Platforms, Calix PON
  • Knowledgeable of IP Networks and Subnetting
  • Proficient in IP Multicast
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand process flow
  • Knowledgeable of BGP, OSPF, MPLS
  • Knowledgeable of various hardware configurations
  • Must Be Proficient with industry standard test equipment
  • IP networking fundamentals including TCP, UDP, RTP, DNS, TFTP, DHCP,IPV4, IPV6, and SCTP. 
  • Knowledgeable with network tracing software such as wireshark.
  • Experience with the OSI model particularly as it relates to what functions affect or impact unified communications services.

-Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Applications i.e. Excel, Word, Powerpoint
  • Google Application Suite i.e. Drive
  • Service NOW Ticket Systems
