Job Description


Engineer, DOCSIS I



This team member will be responsible for the deployment of products on the DOCSIS network; this includes but is not limited to the testing and validation of features/products, process establishment for features/products and training on any features/products.



Duties and Responsibilities:



Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:




  • Validate in Lab the testing of any new DOCSIS feature/tool/product

  • Create and maintain documentation on DOCSIS features, tools and products

  • Assist in the creation and maintaining of DOCSIS testing procedures

  • Responsible for training of internal teams on DOCSIS features, tools and products

  • Participate in training as required

  • Demonstrate/practice current policies and procedures that touch internal and external customers

  • Work closely with other WOW! teams such as Network Engineering, DOCSIS Operations, Video Engineering and local market Head-end personnel

  • Gathers requirements, documents designs, and implements changes associated with managed sites

  • Performs testing and provides on-going Tier 3 support

  • Provide on-going Tier 3 support

  • Monitor CMTS performance and bandwidth utilization, work closely with each system to create and execute upgrade plans in advance of customer impact

  • Maintain external security of CMTS platform by utilizing tools and features to protect WOW! from unauthorized CMTS access

  • Develop clear and concise documentation and make presentations

  • Monitor CMTS security to protect against external and internal attacks

  • Assist with related training events

Education:




  • Bachelors Degree and/or 3-5 years industry related experience



Experience/Skills Needed:




  • Experience in DOCSIS/CMTS industry related field for 3-5 years

  • Knowledge of DOCSIS equipment and solutions

  • Knowledge of CCAP, DAA and other developing standards

  • Must be highly organized, flexible, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks under pressure

  • Knowledge of IP network sub-netting

  • Knowledge of RF-related electronics and transport

  • Knowledge of MPLS, OSPF and BGP routing protocols

  • Knowledge of VoIP

  • Strong knowledge of DOCSIS specifications

  • Must have the ability to read and understand engineering prints as they pertain to Head-end facilities and Hub sites

  • Knowledge of TFTP, CM files, DHCP and other provisioning related elements



Computer Skills:



Word processing, spreadsheets, Internet software, email
