Administrator, Database II

WOW is currently seeking for a mid-to-senior level Database Administrator to implement and to support our data warehouse and internal applications. This person will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, maintenance and control of the database environment -- including SQL Server, Postgres Snowflake and Redshift technologies. The DBA will work closely with all functional groups to assure a smooth implementation and compliance with all corporate adopted industry standards, directions and best practices. This position will also be responsible for providing support to technical/business processes that database technologies for monitoring, maintenance, backup/recovery, data movement/conversion, and reporting concepts. This individual will also be responsible for collaborative work efforts with various Information Management/IT teams to deliver timely and effective solutions that correspond with WOW's enterprise architecture direction.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to:

  • Install, upgrade, maintain, monitor and document all production and non-production data warehouse and application development environments

  • Capacity planning

  • Performance tuning

  • Replication

  • Work closely with development teams

  • Perform DML to production database as necessary

  • Perform code reviews, performance monitoring and tuning

  • Promote releases from lower environments through production

  • Enforce WOW policies and procedures surrounding data management, security and storage. Assist in keeping policies up-to-date and developing new policies

  • Ensure and enforce all database schemas are tracked through source control and process

  • Design, test and implement backup/restore and disaster recovery procedures

  • Capability to prioritize according to needs of the business

  • Provide 24X7 support on a rotation schedule

  • Coordinate closely with architects and technology leads from other technology areas, while virtually leveraging subject matter experts from any needed technical or business area

  • Collaborate with members of the business, project teams and IT staff as needed to fulfill the responsibilities described above

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience

  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments

  • Project solution architecture experience 

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 5-7 Years of Experience in a corporate environment

  • 4+ years' experience and knowledge of RDBMS production environments including monitoring, maintenance, tuning, performance, and capacity management

  • 2+ years' experience and knowledge of SQL Server production environments including monitoring, maintenance, tuning, performance, and capacity management

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others

  • Track record for remaining unbiased toward any specific technology or vendor, and for being more interested in results than personal preferences

  • Track record for thinking about more than technology issues, and for integrating the technical with the business and information aspects for complete solutions

  • Capability for being thoughtful, extroverted and collaborative
