WOW! is currently hiring a Sr Director & Assistant Controller!

The Senior Director & Assistant Controller will serve as a key leader within the accounting department, responsible for overseeing the comprehensive accounting function of the Company. This includes managing the monthly accounting close process, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements, overseeing internal controls, and working closely with external and internal auditors. The role will act as a strategic partner to the VP, Accounting and Financial Controller, providing critical support in all aspects of financial reporting, analysis, and decision-making.

What you’ll be doing:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:  

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. 

  • Responsible for hiring, training, performance management, and career development of the accounting team. 

  • Act as a key resource and advisor for team members on complex accounting issues. 

  • Lead the monthly accounting close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. 

  • Review and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts, ensuring compliance with internal and external reporting requirements. 

  • Present month-end results to senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations for improvements. 

  • Manage the Regulatory Accounting team and participate in regulatory-related audits, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. 

  • Ensures all annual rate changes in recorded and in compliance with GAAP 

  • Oversee the ongoing compliance process for ASC 606, including performing detailed analyses to support the Company’s revenue recognition practices. 

  • Act as the process owner for SOX 404 Compliance, ensuring that all related controls are tested and documented effectively. 

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including IT, Billing, Sales and Marketing, Product, and Finance, to ensure proper accounting treatment for new products, pricing initiatives, and other business activities. 

  • Serve as a liaison between the accounting department and other departments to ensure alignment on financial reporting and compliance matters. 

  • Oversee the external and internal audit processes, ensuring all necessary documentation and support are provided. 

  • Manage and enhance internal controls, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting needs. 

  • Maintain accounting policies and memos. 

  • Serve as the primary owner of NetSuite, ensuring the system meets the needs of the business and supports timely and accurate financial reporting. 

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting department and lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. 

  • Provide strategic support to the VP, Accounting and Financial Controller, including assisting in the development of financial strategies and long-term planning. 

  • Lead special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior leadership, ensuring they are completed on time and within scope. 

  • Manage other accounting processes and responsibilities as assigned, excluding fixed assets. 

  • Stay updated on industry trends and changes in accounting regulations, ensuring the Company remains compliant and adopts best practices. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

What YOU need is:

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or an equivalent combination of education an experience required. 

  • CPA designation required. 

Experience / Skills Needed: 

  • Minimum 10 years of accounting/finance experience, preferably with experience in Revenue Accounting. 

  • At least 10 years of management or supervisory experience. 

  • Public accounting experience required (Big Four preferred). 

  • Broad experience in the telecom industry is a plus. 

  • Extensive experience working with NetSuite ERP and Advanced Revenue Module is highly desirable. 

  • Proven ability to manage and develop teams, with strong leadership and mentoring skills. 

  • Excellent project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex accounting issues to non-financial stakeholders. 

  • Ability to build strong working relationships both inside and outside the organization. 

  • Highly organized, with strong technical accounting, analytical, and computer skills. 

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, initiate actions without specific instructions, and take appropriate risks to achieve results. 

 

Computer Skills: 

Proficient in MS Office, business or general ledger software (NetSuite a plus), Internet, e-mail, and database software as required.
