Job Description

The Senior Tax Analyst is responsible for helping WOW! ensure compliance in all aspects of transaction tax liabilities by filing accurate and timely tax returns and other reports across the states WOW! operates in pursuant to federal, state, and local rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Create and refine various process documentation that will aid in development efforts and contingency plans

  • Analyze new tax laws, regulations, reporting requirements, and court cases, and implement those that impact the tax compliance

  • Evaluate, through modeling, the tax effect and implications of business strategies, contemplated transactions, and business proposals to properly advise management

  • Review transaction tax returns (e.g., sales and use, business and occupation, gross receipts, telecommunications, TRS & 911) and remittances for monthly, quarterly, and annual filings prepared by Tax Analyst (prepare in place of Analyst as needed)

  • Review returns and tax payments/deposits via electronic and paper filing methods

  • Process customer tax exemption requests

  • Analysis of monthly activity and vendors for consumers use tax reporting

  • Prepare and review monthly activity and vendors for consumers use tax reporting including account reconciliation and journal entries 

  • Address internal questions on how to categorize invoices for use tax reporting 

  • Prepare vendor tax exemption documentation 

  • Process new vendor set up tax category assignments 

  • Review vendor tax category assignments changes uploaded by peers in NetSuite

  • Prepare calculation of use tax liability on financing leases

  • Monitor property taxes and prepare funding requests to ensure timely payments via AnyBill

  • Review and prepare property tax, prepaid expenses, and Tax Department specific expense accounts general ledger reconciliations 

  • Prepare Vertex rate change analysis (Preliminary and Final) for billing system updates 

  • Develop and maintain tax calendars to ensure that commitments are timely met

  • Assist with the processing and mailing all estimated tax payments, extensions and income tax returns

  • Review annual W-9 Forms prepared by peers

  • Provide support for state and local audits by performing analytics on data and researching positions

  • Responsible for the follow-up and resolution of tax notices and correspondence from federal, state and local tax authorities 

  • Contribute to special projects as necessary

  • Development and implementation of process improvements

  • Build and maintain relationships with other key departments including accounting, legal, internal audit, human resources, and the regional offices

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other related Business degree preferred but not required

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 4-7 years of relevant experience 

  • Able to effectively manage multiple priorities, work independently and remain flexible in a fast paced environment 

  • Understanding of compliance process and account reconciliation concepts

  • Works effectively in a fast paced, high energy work environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel

  • Able to build strong working relationships both inside and outside the organization

  • Should be a goal oriented, independent self-starter 

  • Organized thinker with strong analytical and computer skills

  • Ability to detail review with accuracy

  • Strong desire to expand tax knowledge and grow skills by taking on increasingly more responsibilities

Computer Skills:

MS Office software (Excel and Word), NetSuite, AnyBill, Tableau, FloQast, Adobe Professional, Internet, Gmail, Google Drive, and database software

The minimum base pay salary for this position is $80,000. Salary may be negotiable based on experience. The minimum salary does not include any other pay elements in which this position may be eligible.
