Job Description

The Senior Manager, Network Engineering Operations leads the team that supports the WOW backbone and regional networks. This role will drive continuous review of outage incidents and procedures to increase performance, reliability and redundancy through automation and proactive measures. This position will manage new device deployments and migrations on to new network platforms. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Lead, supervise and manage a team of highly skilled individuals who look after the day-to-day operations of all network services within WOW!
  • Provide high level technical support for all advanced network services including MPLS core, metro networks, business services infrastructure and other technical hardware as required
  • Provide reports and reporting tools for Marketing and Local Operations on network services performance
  • Provides executive level reporting to inform decision making
  • Act as the liaison between the technical team and internal customers such as Marketing, Tech Ops, NOC, and the Customer Care Center
  • Provide technical evaluations for each region and assist in network design as needed to keep pace with the growth of our subscribers and technology
  • Investigate methods and procedures to better monitor our network and respond to issues
  • Provide informal training to NOC staff as well as other technical departments
  • Interface with Regional operations and provide onsite assistance to ensure compliance with company standards network related equipment
  • Update existing and develop new documentation
  • Provide after-hours technical support and technical troubleshooting for all regions including providing proper escalation to corporate personnel
  • Assist with budget forecasting, financial forecasts relating to Backbone Operations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

-Education:

Bachelor’s degree from four year college or university preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

-Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 5-8 years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively cross functionally
  • Demonstrated understanding of all aspects of service provider networks
  • Five years of Service Provider network experience and/or training
  • Extensive experience with MPLS and commercial networks and the various components included
  • Extensive network engineering and architecture experience - excellent understanding of Internet and datacenter topologies
  • Extensive experience evaluating, configuring, and troubleshooting a variety of network equipment especially Juniper, Cisco, Brocade, and Alcatel-Lucent - solid understanding of associated vendor hardware architecture and characteristics
  • Advanced knowledge of various L2/L3 protocols and technologies: TCP/IP (v4 & v6) and related protocols, MPLS-based services, QOS, BFD, LACP, VRRP, STP, etc.

-Computer Skills:

  • Familiarity with all Microsoft office products and G-suite
  • Knowledge with  FTP, Telnet and SSH protocols
