Job Description



The Senior HFC Design Engineer position is responsible for all HFC design, drafting and maintaining current OSP documentation of Coax and Fiber Plant to include new build, plant extensions, upgrades, Node splits, powering or rebuilds while maintaining current fiber documentation, inventory, and assignments.

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:



  • Plans layout and design applying a thorough understanding of Hybrid Fiber Coaxial to meet system integrity and architecture compliance utilizing Auto-Cad, Lode Data Design, and Various Fiber Design Applications



  • Creates and maintains system maps through Auto-Cad of existing and new Commercial, MDU and Residential developments.



  • Leverages thorough understanding of FTTH, DWDM, CWDM and Fiber PON applications to create quotes and design for complex solutions to meet customer needs and requirements.



  • Provides and maintains current fiber design, inventory and documentation of assigned areas for all departments to expedite completion and restoration as needed.



  • Creates and maintains design specification files and networks to reflect current as built drawings and records.



  • Maintains a professional attitude when in the community following the company’s guidelines for excellent customer service



  • Maintain strong lines of communications with all staff, including management, independent contractors, field, and office personnel



  • All other duties as assigned





Qualifications:

Education:



  • Associates Degree in Electronics of equivalent experience in Outside Plant Design Construction or engineering.





Experience/Skills Needed:



  • 5 + years of experience in Outside Plant Construction or engineering.



  • In-Depth understanding of AutoCAD and Lode Data, with project management related experience, within the cable industry is desired



  • Strong understanding of AC\DC theory and design principles of RF, Fiber and FTTH solutions.



  • Effective experience in implementing and building internal processes and procedures



  • Ability to communicate and interpret Outside Plant prints to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.



  • Ability to accurately maintain records, logs, reports, work orders, etc.



  • Ability to read, compile and interpret Fiber OTDR traces and reports.



  • Able to operate office equipment, plotters, fax, copier, etc.



  • Strong customer-focused behavior; the ability to work with others; must be a team player with strong verbal and written communication skills.



  • Ability to handle escalations and time-critical issues



  • Strong Math Skills



  •  Must be a self-starter and demonstrate the ability to work independently.



  • Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills





Computer Skills:

Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Inventory, Contact Management, basic GIS foundation understanding.
