The Engineer IV, Network Products & Services will provide technology leadership to a team of engineers who are responsible for designing, testing, and troubleshooting network based products and services that our customers consume and taking products from concept through to deployment.  These services include Internet, Ethernet, Voice, and Cloud products that span across our residential and business services market segments. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Utilizes expertize in agile methodology and SCRUM to manage the backlog and deliver on commitments and provides guidance to junior level engineers relative to SCRUM methodology.

  • Translate and document the requirements of business partners and engineering organizations into a deliverable set of functional requirements through detailed user stories.

  • Mentors junior level engineers in evaluating new build areas and provides engineering build plans and timelines on what’s needed to deploy network based products and services.

  • Partners with product management and sales engineering to drive the designs of custom product offerings relating to large commercial and wholesale customers.  Mentors junior level engineers on best practices relating to product design and delivery.

  • Provides input to product, project, and general management on issues relating to product development, project timelines, and the like.

  • Sets standards for design documentation and mentors junior level engineers in regards to service design.

  • Works with product architecture to drive proof of concept design and testing initiatives.

  • Drives standards for engineering deployment documentation for all network products and services and mentors junior level engineers in regards to documentation.  These include designs, MOP’s, and API Guides. 

  • Drives engineering standards for scripts and tools that help in implementing product functionality, system functionality, and KPI reporting.

  • Sets standards for test plans and works with integration engineers to ensure automated testing capabilities are maximized.

  • Identifies bugs in testing and corrects them before product launch.

  • Provides expert level escalation support regarding the configuration and operations of products and services to other engineers and technicians.

  • Reviews the work of other engineers and provides feedback before deployment or implementation.

  • Works with integration engineers and architects to drive standards in software applications to meet product requirements and deliver exceptional experiences to customers.

  • Drives product delivery and process automation through established systems by utilizing CICD, CRON, Jenkins, etc.

  • Partners with vendors and internal peer groups to configure and test new systems and technologies on the enablement of new product features or delivery processes.

  • Participate in the selection of tools, technology platforms and the technical evaluation of third party vendors.

  • Drives the adoption of new technologies and leads proof of concept tests to validate functionality and make business cases on its use.

  • Acts as the subject matter expert on the team for 5+ areas of the technology stack which can include but not be limited to: IP Networking, software development, database administration, VOIP, Cloud Ecosystems, Systems Administration, and/or Systems Integration.

  • Communicates technical and non-technical concepts across a wide variety of groups within the organization.  .

  • BS or BA from an accredited college or university or appropriate combination of education and experience.

  • 5 or more technical certifications or certificates in IP Networking, Cloud Systems, Systems Administration, VOIP, or Software Development preferred.

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • 10-15 years of progressive IT or telecommunications experience is preferred. 

  • Minimum 7 years working experience is required.

  • Expertise in five or more of the following technologies: DHCP, NTP, DNS/ENUM, TFTP, SIP, MGCP, H.248, TLS, XMPP, SMTP, RTCP, TCP, UDP, RTP, IPV4/6, DSCP/TOS, SCTP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, YANG, NetConf

  • Expertise in Cloud ecosystems such as VMWare, Kubernetes, OpenStack or similar

  • Familiarity with open source frameworks such as LAMP, and SMACK

  • Familiarity with software repositories and continuous integration and deployment processes (CICD, GIT, Cron, Jenkins)

  • Demonstrates knowledge with SOAP/XML, REST, and JSON frameworks and API’s

  • Expertise in fiber optic based transport technologies (PON, C/DWDM, OC-X, SONET)

  • Expertise in  MEF standards relative to Ethernet Deployments and best practices.

  • Expertise with HFC network and DOCSIS standards and best practices.

  • Expertise with one or more network platform operating systems such as IOS, AOS, SROS, Junos.

  • Expertise in automation and technology management solutions such as Ansible, Puppet, TACACS+/Rancid, TR069, etc.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of unified communications systems and technologies

  • Experience with automated testing technologies for software applications and/or networks.

  • Expert level knowledge of the OSI model

  • Demonstrates a high level of transparency, collaboration and communication skills

  • Demonstrates a high level of EQ (emotional intelligence)

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with presenting ideas to executives and peers

  • Adaptability with changes to project requirements, work situations and the like.

The minimum base pay salary for this position is $86,500. Salary may be negotiable based on experience. The minimum salary does not include any other pay elements in which this position may be eligible.
