Senior Network Engineer

What you will be doing:

  • Responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting WOW's metro and backbone networks
  • Responsible for working with internal groups and external partners in the design, acceptance testing, and production implementation for long haul transport circuits for both Ethernet and DWDM based infrastructures
  • Assists Capacity Planning team in proactive augmentations for backbone/transport links
  • Lead and coordinate with vendors, customers, and outside organizations all required Backbone work efforts
  • Prepare written reports and other technical documentation necessary to communicate ideas, concepts, and details necessary to accomplish specific goals
  • Analyze chronic network imperfections for root cause source and recommend any appropriate corrective actions. Implement fix/correction as directed
  • Contribute to the definition of operational and support requirements for new network-related technologies and products
  • Provide routing critical issue support for all Metro and Backbone network elements

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelors of Science or Applied Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or five years military and/or industrial engineering experience
  • Four or more years of work experience in ISP environment
  • Must have confirmed experience in design and turn-up of multi-gigabit transport networks
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills and a customer-centric attitude
  • 5 years of Service Provider network experience
  • Recent work history with MPLS and commercial networks and the various components included
  • Recent network design experience in a related field. Routing (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP) and switching expertise
  • Extensive network engineering and architecture experience - excellent understanding of Internet and datacenter topologies
  • Experience evaluating, configuring, and troubleshooting a variety of network equipment especially Juniper, Cisco, Brocade, and Alcatel-Lucent - solid grasp of associated vendor hardware architecture and characteristics
  • Strong knowledge with the configuration of Juniper/Cisco routers, switches, mux's, CMTS's in an ISP environment
  • Detailed understanding of various L2/L3 protocols and technologies: TCP/IP (v4 & v6) and related protocols, MPLS-based services, QOS, BFD, LACP, VRRP, STP, etc.
  • Good understanding of Internet Protocols and interior/exterior routing protocols (e.g. ISIS, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Multicast, IPv6 )
  • Solid grasp of ACLs, prefix lists, and firewalls
  • Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and IP Management
  • JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP and/or CCNP/CCIP/CCDP required and or equivalent work experience
  • CCIP/CCNP or JNCIA/JNCIS required and/or ability to obtain within one year of hire
