Job Description

The Facilities Infrastructure Engineer III is responsible and accountable for the 24x7 operations and maintenance activities of the Advanced Research Center laboratory environment.  The Engineer III is responsible for physical facilities operations and maintenance, electrical power systems, HVAC systems, security, network and systems fiber optic connectivity, cabling, rack layout and design and troubleshooting operations in accordance with company guidelines and local, state and federal regulations. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

  • Oversees and monitors all technical activity within assigned lab area. 
  • Mentors and oversees contract engineering personnel assigned to lab facility.
  • Participates in the training contract engineers and plans, assigns, and directs their work.
  • Leads team and technical problem solving.
  • Oversees on-going and preventive maintenance operations and repair and installation of all lab sites.  Monitors equipment performance to ensure proper functionality in compliance with manufacturer specifications and company specifications.
  • Directs proper maintenance of all lab-related equipment and peripherals including but not limited to: generators, air conditioners, receivers, modulators, processors, optical transmitters, optical receivers, digital receivers, digital transmitters, encoding equipment, controllers, ad insertion, wiring, combining networks, fiber management, digital transport, EAS equipment, set-top controllers, character generators and all related PEG insertion/transmission equipment.
  • Ensures maintenance of integrity and security of lab facilities in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Performs trouble-shooting activities with team members to provide expedient restoration of services and excellent customer service.
  • Responsible for the set-up and activation of the optical path for all new /rebuilt/upgrade plant.
  • Recommends and implements changes in engineering, design, and operations of lab facilities as well as construction of new facilities.
  • Coordinates and oversees testing and inspecting of equipment for operational performance.
  • Implements preventive maintenance procedures, activities and tracking to ensure performance and compliance with company guidelines.
  • Supervise contracted teams involved in the installation and maintenance of the facility and associated equipment.
  • Assists with budget and forecasting data. 
  • Assists with Capital and Operational budgeting, preparation and control
  • Prepares company regulatory and industry compliance reports
  • All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Degree or GED and one-year certificate from college or technical school in telecommunications or related field equivalent combination of education and training

Experience/Skills Needed:

  • Five to Eight years of experience in headend or datacenter operations is required
  • Ability to read and understand engineering prints as they pertain to Hub/datacenter  facilities; including HVAC, power and cabling systems 
  • A solid, working knowledge of TCP/IP networks is required
  • Thorough knowledge of a broadband communication organization, administration, standards, regulations, and rules
  • Familiarity with FCC, state PUC and OSHA specifications, regulations, and standards
  • Understanding of broadband communication technology, materials and equipment.
  • Understand thoroughly the concept and scope of TVRO site, video headend, hub sites, SONET network operations, demand and problems
  • Able to analyze and solve problems with sophisticated test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, managers or employees

  • Microsoft Applications (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word)
  • Google Application Suite (i.e. Doc, Drive, Sheets)
  • Terminal Applications (i.e. SecureCRT, Putty, etc…) - preferred
  • Collaboration Applications (i.e. Lucid Chart, Slack, Zoom, etc…)
  • Service NOW Ticket Systems
  • IPAM Applications (Men & Mice, SolarWinds, etc…) - preferred
  • Fiber optics technologies knowledge
