The Engineer III, Cloud Operations will be responsible for leading any improvements in the release velocity of application developers within the cloud environment through designing best practices and procedures to support deployment automation, advanced monitoring, and high availability architecture. A Cloud Operations Engineer III will also provide senior-level subject matter expertise to teams looking to migrate existing applications and infrastructure into the cloud. This position will help formulate and drive initiatives within the team

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:

• Analyze opportunities and pain points within the user base and drive initiatives to improve the internal customer experience.

• Contribute to the development of DevOps principles to facilitate the management of public cloud and code deployments for WOW and its internal cloud consumers.

• Partner with other internal teams, business stakeholders and external vendors to drive the successful use of our systems and processes.

• Lead the continuous improvement of our monitoring systems to detect and resolve potential service impairments within the cloud.

• Analyze and make recommendations towards disaster recovery planning, testing, and response with a focus on system recoverability.

• Provide expert-level input towards well-architected best practices during a product’s technical design

• Maintain the stability and performance of the cloud platform.

• Conduct regular auditing and provide insights and recommendations to optimize our cloud computing costs.

• Provide senior-level operational support for infrastructure artifacts within the cloud.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience in a related endeavor.
 

Experience/Skills Needed:

• 4+ years of demonstrated experience maintaining SaaS applications in one of the major platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS, IBM Cloud).

• 2+ years of experience with a server operating system (preferably Linux).

• 2+ years of experience building monitoring solutions within an enterprise platform.

• Deep Knowledge of Jenkins and Github CI/CD Pipeline automation and integration.

• Advanced experience configuring and maintaining Rest APIs in production environments.

• Intermediate and above programming skills in at least one of the following languages: python, bash, or javascript.

• Experience with implementing Terraform and Terragrunt within an enterprise environment.

• Advanced knowledge of kubernetes, specifically within Amazon’s hosted solution (EKS).

• Comfort with DNS configuration and architecting domain resolution across a multi-account system.

• Comfort designing and implementing networking architecture across transit routing systems in the cloud.

• Exposure to MongoDB within a production environment.

• A self-starter who is driven towards continuous improvement and adopting new technologies.

• Ability to effectively explain complex topics to a non-technical audience.

• Experience with Docker containers and Kubernetes is a plus.

• AWS Certification is a plus.
